Structural and functional dynamics of Remorin proteins during biotic and abiotic stress responses.

While global climates change towards more extreme conditions, agriculture faces two major challenges: drought and salinity. While a range of adaptations to environmental extremes exist in wild species, these traits need to be transferred into modern cultivars. We have characterised three phylogenetically closely related remorin proteins from Arabidopsis thaliana. Remorin knock-out mutants revealed increased susceptibility to drought, salinity and osmotic stress. We will investigate the molecular function of these proteins during abiotic stress responses through detailed phenotypical analyses of mutants and lines over-expressing remorins.
